Driveways

A driveway is one of the first things people will notice when they come to your home and you will want to make sure their first impression is a good one.

The only way to ensure your new driveway will stand the test of time however, is with the proper preparation of the ground underneath it.

We feel this stage of the works is vital because if it's not done correctly the whole driveway will be wrong. In 2006, I went on a five day New Roads and Street Works Act  (NRSWA) course. Part of this course was devoted to teaching us how to properly compact hardcore to ensure whatever surface above would not sink through time, and I can still vividly remember how important this was drummed into each and every one of us there.

Two of the most common mistakes made when doing driveways are:

1) Not enough soil is dug out, resulting in the driveway sinking.

When the ground is soft underneath the driveway area, it should all be dug out to get down to hard ground, but in reality this often doesn’t occur.

Over the years we have had to dig out an extra two feet (600mm) or more in some cases, to ensure the block paving/monoblocks would not sink.

2) The hardcore is not compacted properly resulting in the driveway sinking.

This happens when the wrong type of wacker is used or too much hardcore is compacted in one layer. See our Why Choose Us page to see our different wackers and where they should be used.

We offer an attractive choice of driveways with various colours and surfaces to suit all properties and budgets.

Here are two of the most popular styles of driveways!

Block Paving - If you are looking for a trendy and stylish material - look no further than block paving. With a huge choice of materials available, we can create a wide variety of styles from sleek and modern to rustic and traditional.

Setts & Cobbles - For a more premium driveway - you may opt for a cobbled driveway. With a range of materials available, we can provide you with contemporary and traditional styles.
