A Wee Bit History

Our dad owned his own earth-moving company, JS Erskine (image above) which specialised in making roads through forests all over Scotland. So it was inevitable that we kids spent a lot of time around the machines (image left) and then eventually driving them (images below) before we all went our separate ways.

It didn't, however, end there.

Over the years we still worked regularly together and have now finally come full-circle to work together full-time on groundworks and landscaping projects. Meanwhile, we've gradually built up the stock of quality equipment we have today, which enables us to take on the multi-varied kinds of projects and scenarios you can find listed under our services, as well as the many examples you'll find throughout this website.

Meet the Team

Established in 2005, we're a small family-run Foundation, Groundwork and Landscaping company, operating all over Edinburgh, the Lothians, Lanarkshire, and the Scottish Borders. Using all the proper equipment, no job is too big or small for us as we have a real passion for our craftsmanship and take great pride in giving our many satisfied clients the absolute best value for their money.

Stewart Erskine

I first worked with my dad after leaving school, helping him make the roads through the forests in the Borders so lorries could pick up the trees and take them away. I then worked as a fitter and turner but after two years I realised I missed the driving and ended up working for a plant hire company in and around Surrey, operating JCBs and wheeled and tracked excavators.

I then worked in the oil &gas industry for a company which specialised in coating twelve metre pipes with concrete. That was where I gained a lot more experience operating much larger plant which included crawler and wheeled cranes, shovels, excavators and dozers.

I later got the opportunity to work in China in 1993/1994 mainly operating large crawler cranes which was a great experience then worked in Holland, Denmark and Norway where we were based on a huge barge.

Most of the time I operated 200 tonne excavators lifting twenty odd tonne pipes and also shovels.
In 2005 I started my own business specialising in mini and micro diggers where I still am today.

Married with two children and hobbies include going out on my mountain bike and classic cars.

Grant Erskine

After leaving school, Grant started off in the family business building roads through forests mainly around the Scottish Borders then worked with a large groundworks company down in Guildford Surrey for a couple of years digging foundations for mainly blocks of flats and new builds, and learning all about the drainage side of things too.

He then started in business for himself in 1995 doing all mini digger work, drainage and driveways then took the opportunity to work alongside Stewart in Denmark and Norway in 1998 and 1999 operating various types of large machinery in the oil and gas industry.

Once that project was finished he returned to his business and now works alongside Stewart and Jim on many projects.
He is married with two children and his hobbies are classic cars and bikes.
